She was raised in Mexico, and now divides her time between London and Los Angeles with her three young children. In the truest sense, Adriana Abascal is a citizen of the world and a student of life. She was born and raised in Veracruz, Mexico by her surgeon father and doting mother (who remains her closest confidant and most unflappable emotional rock).
Adriana travels between her homes in London and Los Angeles with her three young children: Paulina (10), Diego (7) and (Jimena) (3). Though already fluent in Spanish, English, French and Italian, she recently began studying Mandarin Chinese, seduced by the culture’s poetry and reverence for wisdom. Driven by this brand of natural curiosity, Adriana travels around the world, blending effortlessly into each environment, while voraciously exploring and seeking rich new experiences.
Adriana comes by this openness about the world honestly. At age 18, she entered the competitive pageant world, winning the title of Miss Mexico and going on to become runner-up to Miss Universe in 1989. She credits much of her development afterward to a significant relationship with famous tycoon Emilio “El Tigre” Azcárraga, who welcomed her into a cultural universe, where she interacted with dignitaries from Jacques Cousteau to Bill Clinton.
At Azcárraga’s suggestion, she trained as a TV producer (primarily for Televisa’s historical tele-novellas) and as an on-air personality. “I learned my first lessons from pageant life and then from Emilio’s world. I learned how to harness my own power,” she confides. Later, Adriana married Spanish businessman Juan Villalonga, the father of her three beloved children.

Second only to raising her children, Adriana’s most fervent passion is art collecting. Five years ago, she bought her first collage from Galerie Meyer Kainer at London’s Frieze Art Fair. Now, she makes the rounds at art world events across the world, amassing an impressive collection that includes works by Richard Serra, Christopher Wool, Richard Prince, Rudolf Stingel, Mark Handforth and Takashi Murakami.
Deeply immersed in the worlds of fashion, art, music, beauty, health and, of course, motherhood, Adriana is a woman for the new millennium, who seeks to absorb and share the cultural richness that abounds in her fast-paced world.
