Now that we have discovered the motivation of foot tattoo designs for women,... one thing left to do; wear your new sexy foot tattoo well and don't cover it up, ...Inspirational Words for Tattoos.
After writing over two dozen hubs on tattoo ideas that showcased pictures as the majority of the content, I started noticing that a large portion of the comments were from people asking for ideas on what to say, not so much on how to say it. Like Lindsay, for example, who commented on the hub Tattoo Ideas: Words & Phrases and said: "I want some sort of latin script with a phrase having to do with karma." Or Jesso, who said: "I have a colourful fish on my left lower back, but next I want a script.. .. just what I don't know... something positive to remind me every day is mine, I am in control of my destiny."
The tricky thing about quote tattoos is that nine times out of ten they can't be too long. Unless you have a huge expanse of skin that you plan on dedicating to the tat, like a forearm or your entire back, you're going to need to pick a quote that's short enough to fit in a small area. A few years ago my ex wanted to get something I had written tattooed on her in my handwriting. The quote she wanted was twenty-one words long, and she wanted it somewhere on her inner forearms. As she is already fairly heavily tattooed, there was no criteria such as having to get it on a place that could be easily hidden if need be. She's lucky. She ended up getting it running lengthwise down her arm next to the word GIRL that was already there. Most people don't have the same flexibility as her. Maybe your job is too professional for tattoos and piercings, or you don't want your mother to see it. If that's the case, then a quote tattoo can be challenging to find space for. And if you think you're going to fit an entire poem (unless it's a haiku) on your wrist by shrinking down the letters to a size 5 font, you're mistaken. Good tattoo artists will only let you make the lettering so small, because they know that tattoos blend, fade and bleed over time. The smaller the font, the better the chance that you'll be left with a meaningless blob ten years down the road.So believe it or not, I went back through all 2,000+ comments and tried to identify the most common themes people requested when asking for help with quote ideas. In addition to being a voracious reader, I've been compiling quotes in notebooks and journals since I was thirteen. I would like for this hub to turn into a series of hubs broken down by category. So please, if you have any ideas or would like to share a favorite quote of yours, feel free to comment! The examples I've chosen for this particular hub may not resonate with everyone. You might read it and get nothing out of it. But my hope is that something will resonate with someone, somewhere, and the words written here will inspire you to take a step you may not have taken otherwise. What doesn't kill me only makes me stronger.
Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
May I be forever grateful that at times, I did not receive that which I truly deserved.
Turn your wounds into wisdom.
I may be lying in the gutter, but I'm staring at the stars.
He who has a why to live can bear almost any how. -Friedrich Nietzsche
Perhaps all the dragons of our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us once beautiful and brave. -Rainer Maria Rilke
Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.
Let your joy scream across the pain.
Thorns and stings And those such things Just make stronger Our angel wings.
God gave burdens, also shoulders.
If the wind will not serve, take to the oars. To me, every hour of the light and dark is a miracle. -Walt Whitman
Mine the darkness: see by the path you leave behind. -Andy Young
And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. -Anais Nin
Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage. -Anais Nin I gave my life to become the person I am right now. Was it worth it? -Richard Bach
What the caterpillar calls the end of the world the master calls a butterfly. -Richard Bach
Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. -Ralph Waldo Emerson
What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us. -Ralph Waldo Emerson
One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star. -Nietzsche
Leap and the net will appear.
Kites rise highest against the wind.
Dig as a root digs until you find the motive to grow. -Casey Haymes
"Come to the edge," he said. They said, "We are afraid." "Come to the edge," he said. They came. He pushed them and they flew. -Apollinaire It's no secret that Angelina Jolie is fond of tattoos; everyone is familiar with the "Billy Bob" tattoo she got in honor of her now ex-husband, Billy Bob Thornton, then later had covered up. And publicity shots of soccer great David Beckham frequently show his bare back, revealing the names of his sons tattooed in thick black ink. But did you know that these celebrities also have Latin tattoos as well? Angelina's is on her lower stomach (next to a thick black cross that covers up a small blue dragon she got while drunk in Amsterdam) and says, "Quod me netrit me destruit" meaning, "What nourishes me also destroys me." David Beckham's Latin phrase is on his left inner forearm, just below his wife Victoria's name which is misspelled in a Hindi script. The phrase reads, "Ut Amem Et Foveam" meaning "So that I love and cherish."Although it is now extinct, Latin was once the universal language spoken in Europe as early as the 1st century B.C., and it is a language that we can all relate to as many modern day words are derived from Latin. Today, unless you are attending mass at the Vatican in Rome or in Florida with my grandmother (who still says her prayers in Latin, as she was taught to do in the 1930's) Latin phrases are primarily used among doctors (primum non nocere, which means "first, do no harm") and lawyers (habeas corpus). In fact, many people still use Latin today without even realizing it. Bona fide is Latin for "good faith", ad hoc means "for this purpose" and quid pro quo means "something for something", which is used in modern day banter to mean "tit for tat."Luckily, unlike the Hebrew and Arabic words and phrases tattoos I discussed previously, Latin phrases are fairly easy to translate for the sake of tattooing. Wikipedia offers an extensive list of Latin phrases, many of which make for beautiful and inspirational tattoos. Yuni.com also features a long list of common Latin phrases.
As with any tattoo that is done in a foreign language not your own, make sure you do your homework. Double check your translation with several sources. Unfortunately, as the Latin language is extinct, you won't be able to find a native speaker. Instead, ensure your translation is correct by either using several online translators or confirming it's accuracy with a Latin scholar.
